FAQs

Interested in volunteering? Please look through these frequently asked questions to gauge if this is the right volunteer experience for you.

  • We ask that all of our volunteers:

    1. Be in an undergrad/graduate program in psychology, sociology, or other mental health fields, OR be working in the mental health field.

    2. Willing to commit to a minimum of 3 months at a time. As we would like the participates to feel comfortable in their small groups, and part of that is having a familiar face!

These time frames will be, May-July, August-October, November-January, and February-April.

    3. Willing to offer at least one big group presentation on a mental health topic of their choice.

These presentation will be about 15-25 minutes during their volunteer time.

    4. Enjoy working and being around teens, and engaging in their growth and development as a person.

  • We have been lucky enough to partner with Raintree Athletic Clubs to utilize one of their group spaces. More information will be provided once we have a better gauge on how many people are interested in being involved.

We are planning to hold these events Monday evenings from 5-7pm. This is subject to change.

We also ask that are volunteers be available for communication outside of this time for planning, and set up. This will be determined based on the amount of community interest, and how large the events may become.

  • We appreciate your interested, and would love to have you involved still! Here are some options:

    1. Sign up to be a fill in small group leader if one of our regular volunteers becomes sick/unable to lead.

    2. Sign up to be a presenter for one evening. This will require creating a 15-25 minute presentation on a mental health topic of your choice geared towards teens.

  • We understand that a lot of us who will be volunteering live in the community or work in the community, and there may be some overlap. We plan to handle this by making sure that overlap is not in small groups.

If it comes to our attention, or a volunteers attention, that there is a conflict of interest in their small group we will work to transfer the volunteer or participant to another small group.

If you are a practicing therapist in the area, and it comes to our attention you have a client involved in these events we will make sure you are not placed in small groups together. As well as we ask you to speak with your client about any ROIs, and boundaries you may want to set. If you or your client are not comfortable with this arrangement please talk to Empowering Hope, and we will try to come up with a solution that works for both you and your client.

Unfortunately, we may not be able to accommodate every situation. As much as we may want to, accommodations will depend on the size of these events and number of volunteers,. Please know we will always do our best.
